We often receive messages from ex-Muslims in need of assistance. Most of them are stuck in repressive Islamic countries. Sometimes the need is for help with immigration. For others, emergency funds to flee the country. For others still, it is for volunteers in Canada who can serve as local sponsors to allow them to participate in the UNHCR’s refugee resettlement program.
Unfortunately, we as EXMTO do not have the resources at this time (financial or otherwise) to be able to offer any concrete assistance. We are completely volunteer run.
In its present form, EXMTO is primarily a social support group for local ex-Muslims to socialize so as to find people they can relate to. Few are in a position to offer more than someone to talk to who understands. We do not have the resources nor experience with immigration or with funding sponsorships.
If you have Sponsorship Agreement Holder (SAH) funding already in place, and you’re now looking for a Constituent Group in the Toronto area, we cannot make any promises, but we will post your case in our small private group for any of our members who are interested, to get in touch with you.
If you’re an ex-Muslim in need, and currently outside of Canada, we may have sent you to this page so that you could at least find links to organizations who may be able to help, if anyone can.
As you would be well aware, there is a tidal wave of non-belief spreading across the Islamic world. As such, there are many individuals and families in need of help. Too many, in fact, for the limited resources of secular organizations to cope with.
Secular groups who are able to help can only assist a few people at any given time. They tend to focus on activists, as those cases are usually easier to validate as both genuine and urgent.
If you’re in need of assistance, we recommend you contact secular organizations such as Secular Rescue or Humanists International.

Generous public support has allowed the Center for Inquiry to assist more than three dozen individuals and their families in escaping to safety, either temporarily or permanently.

Humanists International works to support individuals who face direct persecution as a result of their humanist beliefs or identity.
Owing to the high numbers of requests we receive each month, we must prioritize those at the greatest risk whom we know we are best positioned to help.

Made it to Canada?
If you do make it to Canada and find yourself in the greater Toronto area, we would be happy to arrange a screening to have you join our local group.
We know that the struggle as a non-believer is difficult to bear. We know that this struggle is even harder when living in a land where apostasy, blasphemy, and freethinking are treated as a criminal offense by the authorities, by the mob, or by both.
We long for a day—and seek to help bring it about—when what today are Islamic societies, ultimately adopt an ideology of tolerance.
